Dietzenbach or Offenbach?
Dietzenbach
A green, quieter town south-east of Frankfurt with a direct S-Bahn connection (S2) to Frankfurt. Ideal if you want a short commute to work locally and a calm, family-friendly environment.
Offenbach am Main
A lively city of around 130,000 residents right next to Frankfurt. Several S-Bahn lines reach Frankfurt city centre in roughly 10–15 minutes, and the choice of apartments is larger.

Good to know: renting in Germany
What is the difference between “cold” and “warm” rent?
Kaltmiete (cold rent) is the base rent. Nebenkosten are service charges such as heating, water, waste collection and building maintenance. Cold rent plus service charges is the Warmmiete (warm rent). Electricity and internet are usually contracted separately.
Which documents do landlords usually ask for?
Typically a copy of your ID or passport, your employment contract or recent payslips, a SCHUFA credit report and, if available, a confirmation from your previous landlord that there are no rent arrears. If you have just arrived in Germany and do not have a SCHUFA record yet, let us know – a signed employment contract and an employer letter can help.
How high is the security deposit?
By law, the deposit (Kaution) may not exceed three months’ cold rent. Tenants are entitled to pay it in three monthly instalments.
Do I need to register my new address?
Yes. You must register at the local citizens’ office (Bürgerbüro) within two weeks of moving in. Your landlord provides the required confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
What does “unfurnished” mean in Germany?
Unfurnished apartments sometimes come without a fitted kitchen or even light fittings. If you need a kitchen, tick “Fitted kitchen” in the form – or choose a furnished apartment.
Do I have to pay an agent’s fee?
In Germany, the party who commissions the agent pays the agent’s fee (Bestellerprinzip). We will tell you clearly in advance whether any costs apply to you – before you commit to anything.
